Popular Mini DVD Camcorders – Take Them Anywhere

Used to be that camcorders were big and bulky in order to hold the VHS tapes and all the technology to record your moments on to the tapes, however, now there is new technology that has shrunk everything down to a hand held miniature version of the larger, older VHS camcorder. In addition, you can now use DVD’s instead of the nearly outdated VHS tapes.

Mini DVD camcorders have all the features of the larger cumbersome DVD camcorders without the weight. There is the zoom in and microphone to capture even the slightest and most private of moments – like a spy movie. There is the zoom out so you can see the big picture like a wide sweeping saga movie where everything is in focus. With a mini DVD camcorder, you will not miss a moment of the action. Pair it with a tripod and you can star in your own film.

Some of the newer models of mini DVD camcorders will even fit into your pocket or purse so they go virtually undetected by others. There are several on the market that are only as big as a cell phone and can perform all the tasks as a larger DVD camcorder with crisp, clear pictures and sound. The discs are smaller, but each mini DVD camcorder comes with an adaptor that fits into your DVD player so you can play your recently recorded DVD’s.

Mini DVD players are popular among the younger crowed because they like to document their lives. Everything and anything is captured on their mini DVD players for posterity. Everyone wants to be the next Frances Ford Copula or big movie director or producer and the mini DVD camcorders allow anyone, anywhere to capture real life action.

Many of the mini DVD players have captured real life as it unfolds, police brutality when they thought no one was looking, muggings, and everyday real life of good things happening as well. The weather changing right before our eyes is another amazing action people are fascinated with and can capture on a mini DVD camcorder. But so is a day at the park or just a stroll along the beach. The mini DVD camcorders are very versatile and can be carried anywhere and used just about anywhere cameras are allowed.

The mini DVD camcorders make great gifts for young people and old alike. Everyone wants to record what is happening around them to help them remember the good times and sometimes, event the bad ones.

Amazing Mini DVD Camcorders

Mini DVD camcorders are the smaller version of the regular sized camcorders that take DVD’s or movies of things like family and friends, children’s recitals, graduations and so on. The quality is the same on most models of the mini DVD camcorders as they are on the larger models, however, more people are opting for the mini versions because they can carry them in their purse, pocket or alongside their digital camera in a camera bag.

Mini DVD camcorders will play in a regular DVD player when you hook up the mini DVD recorder to your DVD player. It’s a simple thing to do and the picture quality is good depending on which brand you choose when you purchase the Mini DVD camcorder.

There are several good brands of Mini DVD camcorders available on the market today. Sony, Canon and Samsung are just a few that manufacture the smaller version of DVD camcorders. The mini DVD recorders save you time because you don’t have to transfer the information onto a disc to play in you DVD recorder, you simply plug in the recorder which has all the information stored inside it like a computer would. This also saves money on purchasing DVD’s to convert over the recorded images.

Since there is no ‘tape’ inside the mini DVD players, everything is on a menu and you simply look at the menu to find the frame you want. There is no longer the rewinding or fast forwarding to find exactly what you are looking for and people like this in addition to the small size and the fact there is no tape.

Depending on what brand and how much you are willing to spend, some mini camcorder DVD’s allow you to edit right on the recorder. Meaning you can stop and back up and record over something you didn’t like or if you are making a ‘film’ and someone messes up their ‘lines’ you can back up and have them say them again. A lot of teenagers today are documenting their lives through the use of mini camcorder DVD’s and this feature allows them to tape over and over something without having to rewind.

If you don’t have the capability of editing on the recorder, then you will have to purchase special software to be able to edit any of your recorded film. Sometime these special software packages come with the mini DVD camcorders and sometimes they are extra.

Top Ten Ranked Mini DVD Camcorders

Mini DVD camcorders are very popular and convenient for consumers who want to capture life and details on camera. It’s important to have a really good system for archiving important family events such as weddings, birthday parties and your home inventory (in the event of fire, flood or other natural catastrophe. Mini DVD camcorders are rated by feature and price.

Mini DVD, also known as: MiniDVD, miniDVD or cDVD are 80mm versions of the standard 120mm DVD Media. 3-inch DVDs and a single-sided mini DVD-R has the capacity to hold 30 minutes of recording time (1.4GB of data) in standard DVD quality recording or 120 minutes of video in SLP mode. Another option is the double-sided mini DVD-R media, and has the capacity of holding a full hour of recording time (2.92GB of data).

Though this recording media was developed for use in regular sized camcorders, consumers now have the luxury to record video or data directly inside the camcorder. This saves valuable production time over transferring video or photos onto a computer and then burning a copy Digital Versatile Disc (DVD). Although smaller in size, a mini DVD disk is able to play in most DVD players. The DVD is an ideal medium for a broad range of mobile storage applications such as digital audio, video, still images, graphics, business presentations, internet downloads or just data sharing.

The number one rated mini DVD camcorder is the Canon HV30. It is the newest model for the much celebrated HV20. The upgrades to the HV20 include a 30fps frame mode (in addition to 24p and 60i), an improved zoom toggle, as well as an enhanced LCD display. Canon determined that tape-based (HDV) high definition camcorders were going out of technology style. HDD and solid state memory were quickly taking precedence. The top six mini DVD camcorders are all products of Canon. The Samsung SC-HMX20 ranks at number seven. The new SC-HMX20 is actually larger than its forerunner, but not by much. It preserved its ultra-stylish appearance, and very handy swivel grip on the hand strap. Inside, however, Samsung gave no-holds-barred since. The SC-HMX20 features a huge 1/1.8-inch CMOS sensor. The performance boost is nothing short of colossal, particularly in low light. An added plus is that the SC-HMX20 is incredibly simple to use, making it a great choice for first time mini DVD camcorder users and owners. It’s no great disappointment that it does not have all the bells and whistles of its competitors, but this camcorder is certainly worth your time.

Sony has three mini DVD camcorders that come into the top ten list at numbers eight, nine and ten. The HDR-SR12 is Sony’s third generation AVCHD camcorder recording to hard disk drive (HDD). The SR12 features a new CMOS sensor and DSP flaunted by Sony to be the best available, along with a massive 120GB capacity. It is joined by the HDR-SR11 ($1,199 MSRP), an identical camcorder with a smaller 60GB HDD. In all previous models, the AVCHD camcorders have failed to live up to performance expectations, but that’s no longer true for 2008. The Canon HF10 gave outstanding performance, sharpness and clarity. So how does the Sony HDR-SR12 hold up to the competition? I believe the correct word is “strongly”. This is undoubtedly the sensor/processor package to own, especially if you’re a Sony fan as I am. I would say the low light performance is exceptional and superior in noise reduction when compared to the Sony HDR-HC9 and is comparable to the Canon HF10 in1080/60i. That being said, the overall sharpness is not as good as the Canon HF10 in bright light, I would like to mention that Canon’s inclusion of multiple frame rates (60i/24P/30P) makes it a much more tempting piece of digital equipment. Though the manual control packages are evenly matched, Sony wins hands down on capacity, while Canon wins soley on portability. http://www.camcorderinfo.com/ratings.php
